From Learning to Leadership: The Story of Bridget Ishaku
The story of Bridget Ishaku is a powerful reflection of what happens when women are given the opportunity to grow, learn, and be supported through intentional empowerment.
Bridget’s journey began with a strong desire to acquire a vocational skill that would provide her with long-term independence and stability. Recognising this aspiration, she was supported to undertake professional training in hairdressing, makeup, and nail technology in Plateau State.
With determination and commitment, she fully embraced her training and developed her skills over time, progressing steadily toward professional certification.
A Heart for Service Through Volunteering
Even during her training period, Bridget chose to give back.
She actively volunteered with the organisation during community outreach programmes, including the Elderly Women Food Support Outreach Programme in Plateau State, where she supported coordination and field activities alongside community leaders.
Her involvement reflected not only personal growth, but also a developing sense of responsibility, compassion, and leadership within her community work.
Graduation and New Beginnings
Bridget has now successfully completed her vocational training and officially graduated, marking an important milestone in her personal empowerment journey.
Her achievement represents more than certification — it reflects resilience, dedication, and the transformation that comes through access to skills development opportunities.
From Training to Entrepreneurship
Following her graduation, Bridget has taken a bold step into entrepreneurship by establishing her own beauty business in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, offering hairdressing, makeup, and nail services.
To support her transition into business ownership, the organisation contributed by covering her first-year shop rent, helping her secure a stable foundation to begin her entrepreneurial journey. In addition, basic shop setup and improvement works were also supported to enhance the functionality and presentation of the space, including light refurbishment and aesthetic improvements to create a conducive environment for her business.
This support was provided to ensure that her skills translate into sustainable income and long-term independence.
Bridget’s journey reflects the heart of our mission — empowering women through opportunity, skills development, and sustainable support systems. Her story demonstrates what is possible when women are not only trained but also encouraged, supported, and trusted to grow into independence.
From learning, to volunteering, to entrepreneurship, Bridget now stands as an example of transformation through empowerment — and a reminder that investment in women creates lasting impact far beyond the individual.
